Tropical Botanic Artists

Susan Cumins discovered the discipline of botanical illustration through classes at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. Inspired by the beauty and complexity of even the humblest plants, she enjoys getting to know them through the close observation that botanical watercolors foster.  A freelance writer and communications strategist, Susan grew up in Southern California where she developed early interests in plants and fine arts. With BA and MFA degrees from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and studies at the University of Padua and the Accademia di Belle Arti, Venice, she was an exhibits coordinator at the Smithsonian's Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES), and assistant curator of painting and sculpture at the Baltimore Museum of Art. A South Florida resident since 1981, Susan is a regular contributor to the journal of the American Society of Botanical Artists (asba-art.org) and is proud to participate in Tropical Botanic Artists' exhibitions.
